Coastal basketball giants Dr Aggrey are through to the finals of the 2024 Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) basketball games after outshining their arch rivals Laiser Hill 65-58 in the closely contested match played on Friday at Machakos Boys Grounds.

The team which is under the tutelage of Kevin Aran headed into the semifinals keen to break the jinx and proceed to the final stage.

Last year they qualified for the semis but went down 59-52 to Dagoretti. They were in the hunt for the second KSSSA title after winning the inaugural one in 2022.

They started on a high, winning the first quarter 12-4 before losing the second and third quarters (11-16), (13-17). They then bounced back to narrowly win the final quarter 14-13.

Dr. Aggrey forced the match to overtime after a full time score of 50-50.

In overtime, a tight 15-8 score saw the Coastal giants carry the day and slide into the finals where they will face Agoro Sare from Nyanza.

This will be the second meeting between the two sides. They met during their second pool match where Agoro Sare defeated Dr. Aggrey by half a basket (54-53).

Speaking after the win, a visibly excited Dr. Aggrey principal Robert Aran praised the students' impressive performance, noting that their resilience worked wonders.

"It was a tough match but we were prepared for this big day because we knew our boys were ready. We played Agoro Sare in the preliminaries but we narrowly lost. Come tomorrow, we promise to turn the tables," Aran told Mozzart Sport.

In the girls' category, Butere Girls will lock horns with Buruburu.

Rugby 15s

It will be a crunch rematch as Butula High School take on All Saints in the KSSSA rugby 15s national finals.

Butula saw off Eastern region champions Kitondo High 32-23 while All Saints Embu humbled Lenana 33-10.

The final match will be a repeat of the 2023 KSSSA rugby 15s finals where Butula edged All Saints 38-0 to claim their maiden title in Eldoret.
